Derry is gateway to Ireland's North East and sits astride the flowing waters of the Foyle. Originally founded in the 6th Century it is the only completed wall City in the British Isles and draws both leisure and business passengers.
The City has a population of around 250,000 people but the airport draws traffic from well beyond it's city walls, with over 340,000 passengers flying though the airport annually.
With a Rynair flight into London Stansted and now a Flybe route into Manchester, Derry Airport is connected to the world. It also has an impressive Summer charter schedule, with flights to Faro, Alicante, Tenerife and Majorca. In 2013, Derry will become the first City in Ireland to be named City of Culture and will welcome a year of events and celebration. As part of the £1 billion investment programme into Northern Ireland the main road routes to Belfast and Dublin are currently being upgraded. These improvements costing over £320m will complete by 2016.
