JUNE 2009 - Airport Partners invest in low carbon LED lighting

Airport Partners, part of the AdGroup, have invested in new external advertising hoardings that use LED at Bristol International Airport.

Andrew Walker, Managing Director of Airport Partners, says; "By using LED bulbs rather than the conventional fluorescents, we are reducing the carbon emissions by two thirds & also reducing the electricity bills by about 65%, which is a massive saving. Additionally the bulbs last much longer, give off a more uniform & pleasing glow & when they do eventually go it is much less apparent, as there are literally hundreds of other small LED bulbs behind the hoarding providing the backlight."

These are the first standard sized 48 sheet advertising sites at Bristol International Airport & form an important portfolio improvement for both the Airport & the national pack recently launched by Airport Partners & headed by Simon Green.

Airport Partners was formed three years ago & now has the advertising & promotions contracts for over 20 regional Airports around the UK, including Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Prestwick & Inverness.

MAY 2009

Airport Partners, which holds the contract for all the advertising at Exeter International Airport, has commissioned Vivid Media, its near neighbour in East Parade, to install two “light box” hoardings there.
The airport is looking to become carbon neutral across its ground activities by 2015, and it is estimated that saving on electricity by using LEDs, or low emitting diodes, on the hoardings means they will pay for themselves within two years.

Andrew Walker, managing director of Airport Partners, said: “The existing two hoardings had come to the end of their lives and we looked at several options for replacing them including like-for-like. We knew about the digital wall and flooring displays that Vivid Media have been installing so approached them about providing a solution using LEDs. Although LEDs work out more expensive to install, the long-term benefits cannot be ignored. As well as the 70 per cent saving in electricity, there is far less maintenance."

“Fluorescent bulbs begin to lose their brightness after around 12 to 18 months, although they can actually blow at any time, whereas the LEDs installed at Exeter will offer around 50,000 hours of light over 11 years, based on them being used 12 hours a day.”

SEPT 2007 -
Regional deals propel Airport Partners to top spot

Fast-growing airport advertising company, Airport Partners, has won contracts to provide advertising for Bristol International, Exeter International and Dundee Airports.

The deals, which are worth over £6m and give Airport Partners access to a total of more than 20 million passengers nationwide, mean the company is now the fastest growing advertising company in the UK airport market.

The company has grown 60% in the last 12 months, after picking up the Glasgow Prestwick account in October 2006 and HIAL in February this year. It now has the widest national geographic coverage in the UK, providing design, production, space rental and maintenance services to 16 regional airports including Leeds/Bradford and Newcastle.

Airport Partners will work with Bristol, Exeter and Dundee airports to develop innovative strategies for indoor and outdoor advertising and promotions.

Andrew Walker, managing director of Airport Partners, said: “These deals are a tremendous boost to our portfolio and a testament to the strength of our tried and tested advertising strategies that are reaping real business benefits for the regional airport industry and the businesses that advertise here.”

With access to over 20 million passengers, we now have the critical mass to offer national advertisers opportunities to deliver campaigns to the growing market that is developing in regional airports throughout the UK, outside London, through a single buying point.

The company fought off stiff competition from JCDecaux and Clear Channel to win the Bristol contract.

Andrew Walker explains: “The Exeter and Bristol accounts dovetail exceptionally well and give us significant presence across the South West of England, with 7 million passengers a year through the two airports and plans for substantial growth in the next three years.

We’re now working closely with each airport to develop new sites, optimise the potential of existing sites, and create new and exciting ways of encouraging top-name companies to promote themselves in them.

Massive growth in passenger numbers and the increasing sophistication of regional airports have made them important players on the national advertising stage.

Companies are quickly recognising the value of regional airports when it comes to targeting a high quality, captive audience in a secure and pleasant environment.”

Airport Partners, has signed a major, five-year contract with Newcastle Airport to provide companies with an integrated package of advertising solutions.

Commencing in December under, the contract will see the company offer a wide range of advertising and promotional packages to suit all budgets, spanning all areas of the international airport.

Newcastle Airport is now one of the fastest growing airports in the UK and has seen an unprecedented growth over the past year with the completion of a new major terminal. In November Jetstar announced plans to introduce services to the Gold Coast and more flights to Melbourne and Brisbane, taking passenger throughput to 6 million a year.

I’m delighted we have won this contract and can now wake the giant and provide excellent opportunities, on all scales. Clients will get the best of both as we target consumers in high profile locations."
